measuring length
Dear npower,
please develop a tool to measure and divide/split splines by length and percentage of length. thx Olaf |

This would be useful (especially the split by percentage of length)

More Details
Can you please give me some more details?
1) Do you mean splitting a NURBS Curve? (as opposed to a surface) 2) Do you just want points added in the sketch like you would get if you used the split command with reference in sketch? Or would you rather have separate sketches created? Or just split into separate curves in same sketch? 3) Would you just want this as an option in the sketch tools themselves or as a separate modifier/command? And why? 4) If you tell me the sort of operations you plan to use the resulting curves for that would be helpful also. Gary

answer
Dear Gary,
1.yes I am talking nurbs curves 2. sorry... All good ideas... 3.Can be integrated but not a must! 4.Loads of times! Its mostly design but also “engineering”. Lets say you need to create a bend surface and need a given side length, because this would be made of a sheet material that is only bend. Or flexible tubes of all the same length and so on.... Maybe lets start with the following: integrated in to pwr_edit_sketch there is already a percentage spinner in curve reconstruction (start/end trim) but the percentage is something mathematical and not length, would be nice to have the same but with a real length percentage. Additionally it would be nice to have the actual length in units displayed and now also have a fixed length input field so the nurbs curve would be cut or extended to exactly that length and cutting a certain length at the start. So lets say you have a 100 unit long nurbs curve and would input length: 50 and start: 25 you would get half the length of the original starting at a quarter and ending at a quarter... (this could either be units based or percentage based...) I hope i explained it well enough thx Olaf |
